looking for a place around Lhenice in 1769

Příspěvekod tarragon75 » čtv led 03, 2019 21:25

Hello,

It is my very first time on this forum! It's quite difficult for me since I do not speak your language at all. Excuse me for writing in English.

I am French but my great grandmother was born TRNKA. My TRNKA family was from Graz (Styria/Austria) and before that they came from the town of Lhenice in South Bohemian.

90% of my czech ancestors are from Lhenice.

I'm tracking my ancestors on digy ceskearchivy (what a wonderful site!) and a cousin of mine married in Lhenice in 1769, she was named Christina GREGORA. Her husband is said "ex Mola Köpliana" : could you please help me find out what place is it and where it is located ? Probably it has changed name...

Thanks a lot !!

Hello Manuel,
I think "ex Mola Köpliana" means "from Köpl's mill". Another name: Köpplmühle.

Hello Manuel,
it could be quite tricky as it's been some 250 years ago. At least it's certain it's been a wind- or water-mill. Couple of sites I've tried:

http://vodnimlyny.cz/ - a database of water mills (no luck so far)

http://www.zanikleobce.cz/ - a database of ceased places; few candidates (i.e. not-as-distant from Lhenice) below, although none of them fits exactly the church record:
http://www.zanikleobce.cz/index.php?obec=10639 Kohlmühle
http://www.zanikleobce.cz/index.php?obec=12271 Kögelmühle

It would be great if you'd have some birth records from that pair, they may have more info...

Thanks a lot for all your answers. I will take the time to read it carefully.

Libi, no this is not the birth record of Christina GREGORA which married in 1769. She was born in 1751 : https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/5160/81/1054/1670/73/0

Boza, unfortunately I haven't any birth records from that pair since they are not born in Lhenice. That's why I was looking forward to find out where is "Mola Köpliana" since I guess if the pair has had children they might be born there!

I am certain it is this mill: https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/720656/51/3883/1992/18/0 as pointed out by Burča. On few pages, the register does record few real-estate contracts that were related to this property (a mill). Looks to me that mill did exist well into 1830's but my German is non-existent

Boza

Thanks for your answer

What kind of register is this (the one you linked) ?
I do not understand as it does not seem to be a parish register which I am a little bit more familiar with :D

Bingo! There is name Bernard Vintzig and his son Georg in the contract. I´m convinced (exclusion method) that mill is currently: Vodice 28, Lhenice.

Correction: the right mill is "Keplův mlýn" in Chroboly.

And Christina died 11.8.1771: https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/4153/226/1391/1650/106/0. You can search your siblings in Chroboly.

Heureka, so the mill was exactly here: https://mapy.cz/s/3jG8W ; today, there's a tourist route marking "Keplův mlýn". Köpl in German is pronounced Kepl in Czech.

Also, the 19th century map shows the mill clearly: https://mapy.cz/19stoleti?x=14.0786069& ... 93143&z=15

National Heritage Institute has a record about this mill too, giving very brief history: https://pamatkovykatalog.cz/?element=20 ... ntsResults

@ Manuel: besides the church records, some archives has digitized also other books, such as Land Registers. Basically the books that did record real estate (buildings, crop fields, lakes, meadows, whatever...) ownership and associated contracts changing such an ownership. Quite a useful source, as long as a) has been preserved, b) it is digitized and c) one is skilled in deciphering it.

Enough on that; the place you were looking for has been succesfully found [kudos to Burča] :D

Many thanks to both of you, Burca and Boza :D

The place was in fact very close to Lhenice but I'm not sure I would have found it without your precious help.

I have never looked to Land Registers. It is definitely because of c) one is NOT skilled in deciphering it !

Christina had not many children since she died indeed two years after her marriage in 1771 : there is Georgius born in 1770 and Laurentius born in 1771 (Christina died giving birth to Laurentius). Georgius died when he was 2 years old but it seems Laurentius was still alive in 1786 ....
