Metzl/Metzel

Menzel: Difficult to evaluate the meaning, attached is even a whole study which says more about geographical origins then meaning of the work
Metzel: not a common surname in Germany (not one found in Frankfurt), same for "Metzl". I think the one you need to be looking for is either "Metzler" or "Metz"
Metz is the old name for a cutler, meaning someone who handles with knifes or a stone cutter (Steinmetz)
Metzler: original meaning could be german word for "butcher" (Metzger)
